Ukraine Social Story

Summer of 2022

The Ukraine Social Story depicts the Russo-Ukrainian War and informs the public, especially children, of the importance of peace. The story is written by Dr. Shu-Chen Jenny Yen and illustrated by Carina, and introduces three main topics: what war means, what different people experience during the time of war, and how other nations aid those who are negatively impacted. We participated in this project through creating illustrations and translating this story from English to Mandarin so that the story can reach a wider audience. Our ultimate goal is to spread and alert people of the detrimental consequences of war – not only how war impacts countries who are directly involved but also how it affects the rest of the world

In addition, we initiated a fundraiser through GoFundMe, raised $5000, and printed 200 copies of the book in the US. Dr. Shu-Chen Jenny Yen contacted teachers in Ukraine to organize a plan so that they will be receiving the books sent by us. With their help, all 200 copies were successfully sent to the hands of Ukrainian children living in refugee camps. The books also later reached the Czech Republic. At times, war can be inevitable, but it is extremely important to remember to spread kindness and help whenever we can, regardless of what form.
