Thomas House Family Shelter
While working as a youth leader at the OC Peace Camp, we collaborated with Thomas House Family Shelter and met many young children from there who seem to have a tough beginning. We were able to speak to these children and came to understand that many of them stay in the shelter because their family have financial difficulties which prevented them from having a house of their own. The situation they are undergoing reflects on a larger issue – social mobility. After further research, we discovered that one way to help them change their social economic status is to develop relationships with them which would allow the children to recognize and see the possibility of a bigger world and the potential to change their current social status. With this in mind, we decided to deliver cakes, cards, and small gifts to their shelter to make sure that they know we are always here for them if they ever want to talk or need any guidance.
