Making change one step at a time.

Thomas House Family Shelter

While working as a youth leader at the OC Peace Camp, we collaborated with Thomas House Family Shelter and met numerous young campers who had a tough beginning. We learned from these children that they stay in the shelter because their family’s financial difficulties hinder them from having a house of their own. This situation sheds light on a larger issue – social mobility. After further research, we discovered that a way to help change the children’s social economic status is to develop relationships with them; this allows them to recognize possibilities of a bigger world and their own potentials to breakthrough their current status. With this in mind, we decided to deliver cakes, cards, and small gifts to them on special days to make sure they know that we are vouching for them.
